17 days and counting

It has been 17 days since Josh had his last seizure! He tried a "new" medicine, Depakote, at the end of July and it appears to be helping. Josh has never gone this long without a seizure, except for the times when he was in the hospital or just getting home from the hospital.

We are all trying not to get our hopes up too much for fear of getting too disappointed. Epilepsy is a roller coaster, a treacherous and unpredictable ride.

Depakote is one of the oldest Epilepsy drugs and one Josh tried when he was first diagnosed with Epilepsy four years ago. We decided to try it again because it was somewhat effective back then and because he and his seizures have changed in four years.

Josh is starting the fall term at Hudson Valley Community College Aug. 30, under an early admit program that will allow him to finish his senior year of high school by simultaneously getting the high school credits he needs to graduate and college credits. It's a great opportunity and a significant challenge for him.
