Rx for stress

Still waiting. No seizure activity yet. And, just so you know, Josh averages about 5-7 seizures per week at home. Dr. Carlson and Dr. LaJoie want to "stress" Josh today to induce seizures. That means photic stimulation (flashing light), hyperventilation, and Josh's all-time favorite, sleep deprivation.

Update on numbness/slurring speech: Both Dr. Carlson and Dr. LaJoie believe it is due to irritation and inflammation on the brain from the electrodes. Dr. Carlson, whose expertise is in intracranial electrodes, says he's seen it before. It can last for the whole time the electrodes are in or not, he said. And it will/should go away once they are removed.

  1. Is there still a chance of surgery tomorrow? We are leaving Friday open for a road trip, but we are playing it by ear in case Josh is not feeling up to it. Jill and Luke asked if they could tag along too.

  2. Very slim chance of surgery Thursday. Josh would absolutely love to see you and his friends. He perks up whenever visitors come in.

  3. Kelly,

Sorry to be so unsure, but we really don't know yet about surgery tomorrow. If Josh does have one or two seizures today, he might very well go the OR tomorrow. He would be so excited to see you all (and so would we!), I just wouldn't want you to make the trip down if Josh is not up for visitors. So, could we give you a call tomorrow just to let you know?

  4. I am totally flexible,so I will be awaiting word from you. Jill will need to reschedule her Friday morning patients if she comes with us, so I will see what she wants to do.
